Statement by the Pact for Coexistence on the Occasion of the Repeated Attacks against Humanitarian Organisations

17 July 2025. The Pact for Coexistence Platform, of which Crue Universidades Españolas is a member together with other institutions and civil society organisations, has issued a statement on the occasion of the World Day for International Justice, in response to the “repeated attacks against humanitarian organisations”:

“In view of the intensification of the barbarity of violent conflicts at the international level and the growing increase in attacks against civilian populations and national and international humanitarian aid organisations, the undersigned entities, united within the Pact for Coexistence platform, once again publicly call for the total and immediate cessation of violence and insist on the inescapable duty of the entire human family to observe International Law with the utmost rigour.

This duty becomes even more urgent with regard to respect for International Humanitarian Law, which is essential to enable assistance to all victims of conflict in the most effective, rapid and comprehensive manner.

We therefore condemn all deliberate attacks against humanitarian organisations, medical and care services anywhere in the world, as well as the growing malicious attempts to criminalise individuals and organisations working to support and defend victims of conflict.

We recall that the fundamental duty arising from the Universal Declaration of Human Rights—which responded to the greatest armed conflict and the largest genocide in the history of humanity—is the duty to act fraternally, and that this obligation constitutes a common norm binding on all people, all institutions and all countries.

As a human family, we are mutually interdependent as individuals, as countries and as rights-holders. For this reason, we oppose any escalation of warfare or discriminatory responses as a means of resolving conflicts of any kind. Humanitarian organisations stand at the forefront of the essential collective effort to uphold and restore human dignity in all contexts and settings where it is undermined.

Committed as individuals and as organisations to the defence of Human Rights, we reject any action that degrades such dignity, whether through action, omission or legislation.”
