
Madrid, 17 June 2025. The Conference of Rectors of Spanish Universities (CRUE) and the Swedish Association of Higher Education Institutions (SUHF) held a bilateral meeting today with the aim of strengthening cooperation in strategic areas of higher education and research.
During the meeting, participants addressed issues such as institutional governance, funding models, sustainability, artificial intelligence, international cooperation and student participation. Both delegations reaffirmed their commitment to the shared values of autonomy, equity, scientific integrity and academic freedom.
Representing CRUE, the meeting was attended by Ricardo Mairal, President of Crue–Internationalisation and Cooperation and Rector of UNED; Nuria González, President of Crue–Sustainability and Rector of the University of León; Mª Teresa Lozano Mellado, Secretary General; Gema Luna, Director of Institutional Relations; and Carlos Contreras, Head of International Projects.
The Swedish delegation was represented by Hans Adolfsson, President of SUHF and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Stockholm; Malin Broberg, Vice-President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Gothenburg; Erik Renström, Vice-President and Vice-Chancellor of Lund University; and Marita Hilliges, Secretary General, among other representatives.

This meeting forms part of the consolidated institutional relations that CRUE maintains with other European rectors’ conferences, such as CRUP (Portugal), HRK (Germany), France Universités and CRUI (Italy), reinforcing its commitment to a more cohesive, open and inclusive European Higher Education Area.
