CRUE Expresses Its Support and Solidarity with the Cuban University Community Following the Cancellation of the “Universidad 2026” International Congress on Higher Education

Madrid, 10 February 2026. The Conference of Rectors of Spanish Universities (CRUE) expresses its support and solidarity with the Cuban university community following the cancellation of the 15th “Universidad 2026” International Congress on Higher Education, a landmark forum for academic dialogue and university exchange, conceived as a space for sharing experiences, good practices and strategies to improve higher education.

CRUE expressly acknowledges the commitment, dedication and cooperative spirit that have historically characterised the Ministry of Higher Education of Cuba, Cuban universities and all institutions involved in the organisation of this Congress.

Spanish universities also convey their closeness and support to the Cuban academic community in light of the complex situation currently facing the country, and highlight the essential role that this community continues to play in the education of professionals, the advancement of research and contributions to social development, even in particularly challenging contexts.

Finally, CRUE reiterates its firm commitment to continuing to strengthen academic and institutional ties with Cuban universities and expresses its confidence that, when conditions allow, these spaces for meeting, dialogue and collaboration may be resumed, contributing to the strengthening of higher education and to greater understanding among university communities.
