Crue meets with the JRC to further their institutional collaboration

Madrid, March 17, 2023. Crue Universidades Españolas has met with a delegation from the Joint Research Center (JRC) of the European Commission, chaired by the Director General Stephen Quest, as part of their institutional visit to Madrid. Crue’s representation was headed by the Executive Vice President Prof. Rafael Garesse, who was joined by the Vice Rector for Research, Innovation and Knowledge Transfer of the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos and member of Crue’s Sectorial Commission for R&I, Prof. Fernando García Muiña.

The meeting focused on exploring ways to improve the collaboration between the JRC and Spanish universities around two main actions lines. On the one hand, they shared an interest in establishing communication channels to give visibility to certain JRC initiatives in Spanish universities and generate synergies. Among other possibilities, the organisation of joint conferences or institutional visits to Brussels was considered.

On the other hand, the possibility of establishing thematic priorities was addressed to launch specific lines of action within the framework of the European Commission’s research and innovation policies. In this sense, the possibility of carrying out a cross-analysis between thematic areas of JRC and the areas of specialisation of Spanish universities of Crue was considered to identify collaboration priorities in the framework of the upcoming Spanish Presidency of the EU.
